Privacy policy
Film Tool Hub is a set of free filmmaking tools. Your work stays in your own browser and, if you sign in, in your own Google Drive. We don't run a server or a database, and we never receive your work.
- Your projects are saved in your browser, and in a Film Tool Hub folder in your own Google Drive if you sign in.
- The site can only see the files it creates in your Drive. It can't see anything else you keep there.
- No adverts, no analytics, no tracking cookies, and nothing is sold or shared.
- You can delete everything yourself at any time (see “Removing your information”).
Who runs Film Tool Hub
Film Tool Hub is run by Timothy McGlinchey. For any question about this policy or your information, email tmcglinchey@belfastmet.ac.uk.
What you can use without signing in
Every tool works without an account. Whatever you make is saved in your web browser on that computer, using the browser's own storage. It isn't sent to us. Anyone else who uses the same browser profile on that computer may be able to see it.
Signing in with Google
Signing in is optional. It lets you keep your projects in your own Google Drive and carry on from any computer. When you sign in, Google asks you to allow two things:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name, email address and profile picture | To show who's signed in, and to keep your projects separate from anyone else who uses the same computer. This is kept in your browser only. |
Access to the files Film Tool Hub creates in your Google Drive (the drive.file permission) | To save your projects and their backups in a Film Tool Hub folder in your Drive, and to open them again. The site can't see, read or change any other file in your Drive. |
Your project files travel directly between your browser and your Google Drive. They don't pass through any server of ours, and we can't see them.
Film Tool Hub's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use this information for advertising, we don't sell it or share it with anyone, and no person reads it.
What's saved, and where
| Information | Where it's kept |
|---|---|
| Your projects and the work in each tool, including any scripts, images or PDFs you load into a tool | Your browser, and your Google Drive if you sign in |
| Automatic backups of your projects | Your browser, and the Backups folder in your Google Drive if you sign in |
| Your Google name, email and picture | Your browser only |
| Your light or dark choice | Your browser only |
| Your location, only if you choose “My location” in the Shot List Builder | Used on your device to work out sunrise and sunset, and saved with that shot list |
Services the site relies on
Like most websites, Film Tool Hub loads a few things from other companies. Each can see the basic technical details any website sees, such as your IP address and browser type, but not your work.
- GitHub Pages hosts the website. See GitHub's privacy statement.
- Google provides sign-in, Google Drive and the website's fonts (Google Fonts). See Google's privacy policy.
- cdnjs (Cloudflare) supplies some tools' building blocks, such as the code that reads PDFs and makes Excel files. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Cookies
Film Tool Hub doesn't use cookies for tracking or advertising. It uses your browser's storage to keep your work and settings, which is needed for the tools to work. Google may use its own cookies while you sign in.
Removing your information
- From a computer: click your initial (top right), then Sign out, then Sign out and remove. You can also clear this site's data in your browser settings.
- From your Google Drive: delete the Film Tool Hub folder.
- Stop the site using your Google account: go to your Google Account's third-party connections and remove Film Tool Hub.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including to see it, correct it and delete it. Because your information stays in your own browser and Google Drive, you can do all of this yourself using the steps above. If you need help, or have a concern, email us. You can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
If the way Film Tool Hub handles information changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
